Managers, not technologists — and the reading's real root
The module's Part 4 video argues that transforming a firm with AI means reorganising operations, structure and culture — so the people who lead it are the managers, not the technologists. Managers must understand the technology's economic properties, understand how algorithms learn, and motivate people as routines move to machines. This is essentially Iansiti & Lakhani, “Competing in the Age of AI” (2020) — the “AI factory” — which the video does not name.
The real root of the reading
Hossain's three “pillars” (managerial human capital, social capital, cognition) come from Adner & Helfat (2003), who coined dynamic managerial capabilities. Cite the root, not just the 2025 secondary paper.

Strong idea, thin evidence base
The reading is 20 qualitative interviews, one industry, one country — the authors say so. It maps leadership perceptions, not proof that these capabilities cause higher AI ROI or safer deployment. It also assumes infrastructure a Dhaka bank with three IT staff may not have — the same frameworks land very differently at EY's scale (next case) than at a regional bank's.
